Homeowner shoots after suspect enters Eagle Rock residence, police report

A collision on the 134 Freeway led to a series of dramatic events for law enforcement officers in Eagle Rock, as a local resident fired shots at individuals fleeing a crash after reportedly trespassing into her home. The crash occurred at approximately 3 p.m. on the eastbound lanes near the N. Figueroa Street ramps, per the California Highway Patrol. Following the collision, three individuals fled the scene and entered a nearby neighborhood in the 1200 block of Eagle Vista Drive, as per CHP reports. The suspects then allegedly broke into a residence on Eagle Vista Drive, prompting the homeowner to use a firearm to defend her property. Law enforcement officers initially mistaken the situation, believing the homeowner was shooting at them, and fired back. The homeowner was injured in the shoulder by gunfire and is currently receiving medical treatment, according to the police. Police took one suspect, dressed only in underwear, into custody around 4:20 p.m., with another suspect apprehended later. Additionally, two women were detained after leaving a home in the area, with one of them reportedly carrying a weapon and claiming to have tried to protect her property during the break-in attempt by the suspects. Responders stayed at the scene post-arrests as they suspected a potential gunshot victim inside the residence. All eastbound lanes of SR-134 were shut down as the investigation continued. Fortunately, no officers were harmed during the incident. Clarifying earlier reports, CHP officers confirmed that only the homeowner had fired shots, not the police.
