Historic pilot escapes dramatic crash at Goodwood
Popular vintage racer Mark Walker emerged unharmed from a high-speed incident at the 82nd Goodwood Members’ Meeting. His powerful Darracq 200hp car was the fastest in the S.F. Edge Trophy race, a competition for early 20th-century vehicles. Despite initially struggling due to a slow first gear, Walker impressively won the first race on Saturday. While trying to catch up with rival Julian Majzub in the second race on Sunday, Walker lost control and crashed out of the competition. Fortunately, he escaped without injuries, with Majzub ultimately claiming the victory. Majzub's Sunbeam, which had retired on Saturday, allowed Walker a chance to secure the Trophy if he had finished second. However, his crash paved the way for Ben Collings in a 1907 Mercedes 120hp to snatch the overall win. The podium consisted of Collings, Neil Gough in a K-R-I-T 100hp Racer, and Lewis Fox in a Peugeot Indianapolis. The 2025 S.F. Edge Trophy marks the first time the cars have been limited to those from 1918, and the event boasted the largest gathering of Edwardian cars since World War I.
