Highway 26 in Calaveras County Closed Due to Fatal Accident, According to CHP

A fatal accident caused a temporary closure of a highway near Valley Springs in Calaveras County on Monday afternoon, as reported by the California Highway Patrol. The incident occurred on Highway 26, just west of Vista Del Lago around 3:45 p.m. A man in his late 70s, driving a Mitsubishi in the eastbound lanes, lost control of his vehicle, crossed into the westbound lanes, and collided head-on with a Ford truck. Regrettably, the man driving the Mitsubishi did not survive the crash, while the driver of the Ford sustained minor injuries. The deceased driver, a resident of Valley Springs, has not yet been publicly identified. Highway 26 has since been reopened for traffic, according to the CHP.
