High school offers counseling after 18-year-old dies in Falmouth crash

Falmouth High School is offering support to students Monday after a deadly crash in the community that left a young man dead. Kayden Coombs, 18, of Falmouth, died as a result of injuries he sustained Friday from a one-car crash on Route 28 in Falmouth.Troopers and Falmouth Fire Department firefighters arriving at the scene found the car off the roadway, down an embankment, with what they said was "catastrophic damage."Coombs was found underneath the car. Troopers said firefighters took him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. In a statement on Sunday, the high school confirmed one of the victims is a student. The school is bringing in counselors and clinicians for sessions in the library on Monday."Grief and anxieties show up in unexpected ways for all of us. Our strength lies in our trust and support of one another. We are in this together," Principal Alan Harris said.The two other people were found outside of the car with life-threatening injuries.Troopers said one person was med-flighted to a trauma center, and the second person was transported to a hospital in the Boston area.Members of the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Cape & Island's District Attorney Robert J. Galibois' office, along with the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Section, MassDOT and the Falmouth police and fire departments are investigating the crash.The district attorney said he is in contact with the families of the people involved in the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing.
