High School Football Player Fatally Shot in Hunting Incident Due to Misidentification
Tragically, a 17-year-old high school student named Carson Ryan from Iowa was accidentally shot and killed during a hunting trip with his friends this past weekend. Carson, a senior at Washington High School, was fatally injured by a member of his hunting group who mistook him for a squirrel while they were out hunting in Brighton, a rural area near Des Moines. Following the incident, Carson was rushed to UI Health Care Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources confirmed that the matter is currently being investigated. Apart from being an active member of the high school football team, Carson was also involved in track and basketball. An emotional vigil in remembrance of Carson was held at the school, during which assistant football coach Nic Williams warmly spoke about the late student. The community, including around a dozen local school districts, expressed their grief and support for the Ryan family through social media. To assist with the financial responsibilities of Carson's memorial, a GoFundMe page was set up by a family friend, which has raised over $54,000 to date.
