Henry Ruggs III uses prison time for NFL comeback, Josh Jacobs reveals

Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III is currently training and seeking a fresh start in his NFL career, according to Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs. Jacobs, who played alongside Ruggs during their time at Alabama and with the Raiders, shared during a podcast hosted by Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor, and Channing Crowder that he maintains a close relationship with Ruggs, who is serving a prison sentence of three to 10 years after pleading guilty to a felony DUI charge related to a fatal car crash in 2021. Jacobs expressed his support for Ruggs, mentioning that he has been in discussions with teams on Ruggs' behalf, with some showing interest in giving him another opportunity. Jacobs advised Ruggs not to dwell on past mistakes, emphasizing that one decision does not define his character. The former teammates, both in their mid-twenties, were teammates at Alabama and in Las Vegas. In the tragic incident from November 2021, Ruggs was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood-alcohol content well above the legal limit when he crashed into another vehicle, resulting in the death of a young woman and her dog. Following the crash, Ruggs was promptly released by the Raiders. Jacobs recounted that he was initially supposed to be with Ruggs that fateful night, sharing that it was a change of plans that prevented him from being present during the incident. Despite his initial anger upon learning about the events, Jacobs spoke highly of Ruggs as a good-natured individual who had made a regrettable decision in a moment of misjudgment. Ruggs, drafted as the 12th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, had made significant contributions on the field, but his career was derailed by the tragic crash.
