
Hampden DA to provide update on West Springfield deadly crash
WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A driver was arrested in connection with striking and killing three workers on I-91 in West Springfield early Friday morning. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) states that the right lane and the breakdown lane were also closed but have since reopened. The ramp for Exit 10A on I-91 north remains closed at this time as police continue their investigation. According to a MassDOT spokesperson, an accident recovery contractor working under a permit was killed, and no MassDOT employees were involved. "We are deeply saddened by the fatal crash on I-91 involving an accident recovery contractor working under a permit. The crash was not at a MassDOT worksite and did not involve any MassDOT staff. The incident is under investigation by the State Police, who should be contacted for further details," stated MassDOT. The Hampden County District Attorney's Office is scheduled to provide an update at 1 p.m. 22News will update this story as soon as more information becomes available.
