The lieutenant governor sent by DeSantis, Jay Collins, arrival in California also stirs up a political rivalry with Governor Gavin Newsom, both of whom have higher political aspirations. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security revealed that the truck driver, Harjinder Singh, from India, was in the U.S. unlawfully. Collins criticized Newsom and California's policies at a press conference, while Newsom's spokesperson dismissed the trip as a mere "photo op." Singh was arrested in California for the accident that occurred on the Florida Turnpike. He is facing charges of vehicular homicide and immigration violations.
