
Girl dies in Mass. crash, driver arrested, Norfolk DA says
A girl was killed in a Saturday evening car crash in Franklin, Massachusetts, Norfolk County District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey confirmed.The crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. Saturday near 76 Grove Street in Franklin. Franklin police and fire departments were called to the scene, where they found a two-car crash involving a pickup truck and a sedan.According to Morrissey, the girl's brother and mother, who were also passengers in the car, were hospitalized with serious injuries. The child's father, who was driving, was released from the hospital after receiving treatment for his injuries.The driver of the pickup truck, James N. Blanchard, 21, of Franklin, was arrested and charged with motor vehicle homicide while driving negligently and under the influence of alcohol, three counts of operating under the influence of alcohol and causing serious bodily injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with an open container of alcohol, and a marked lanes violation. The young victim was five years old, sources tell WCVB.The identity of the girl has not yet been released.Blanchard is currently being held on $500,000 bail and will be arraigned in Wrentham District Court on Tuesday.
