Garfield Resident and Cancer Survivor Dies in Tragic Accident.

John DeFalco, a 71-year-old resident of Rockaway, tragically lost his life in a serious accident on Route 80, as reported by authorities. The incident occurred on Sunday, June 8, when DeFalco, driving a Kia Sportage, veered off the road and collided with a guardrail, causing the vehicle to overturn. New Jersey State Police spokesman Jeffrey Lebron confirmed that DeFalco was fatally injured in the crash. Following the sad news of John DeFalco's passing, his wife Lucy posted information about his upcoming services at the DiChiara Funeral Home in Lodi, NJ. DeFalco was a well-known figure in the community, having been the owner of the Green Pond Grill and The Chauffeur in Rockaway, as well as serving as assistant director at Integrity House in Secaucus, according to his obituary. DeFalco's battle with cancer was also mentioned, with his wife previously sharing on social media that he had been diagnosed with stage four esophageal cancer but was miraculously declared cancer-free later on, thanks to the support and prayers of many. He leaves behind his wife Lucy, his son Matthew, his sister Linda, and a grieving community. A wake will be held at Di Chiara Funeral Home in Lodi on Wednesday, June 11, with a chapel service at 6 p.m. for those who wish to pay their respects.
