A man from Fresno, California, who caused a fatal crash while under the influence of marijuana and trying to escape from the police, has been given a significant sentence by the District Attorney's office. Roger Lynn Harris, aged 38, will be spending five years in prison followed by a term of 30 years to life for his involvement in a deadly DUI chase. The incident took place on April 23, 2020, when Harris was stopped by the police for running a stop sign in Fresno. Despite being asked to turn off his vehicle, he attempted to flee, driving recklessly and causing a tragic collision that resulted in the death of 48-year-old Guy Shearer. Harris was found to be driving under the influence of marijuana, and a firearm was also discovered in his car. Additionally, due to his prior criminal record, he faced sentencing under the Three Strikes Law.
