Fourth soldier discovered deceased in Lithuania following military vehicle crash

The U.S. Army has sadly confirmed the loss of a fourth soldier from the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, following an accident involving an armored recovery vehicle near Pabradė, Lithuania. After a thorough week-long search, the soldier was discovered deceased on April 1. The soldier's identity is being held back until family is notified. All four soldiers went missing during the early hours of March 25, along with their M88A2 Hercules armored vehicle. The other three soldiers and the vehicle were recovered from a peat bog on March 31, without official identification. Military officials expressed sorrow and appreciation for the collaborative search effort involving various armed forces and personnel, including the Lithuanian, Polish, and Estonian armed forces, as well as U.S. Navy, Army, and Corps of Engineers personnel. The soldiers were part of Operation Atlantic Resolve, a NATO mission focused on strengthening military partnerships and deterrence in Eastern Europe. An investigation has been launched by the U.S. Army to determine the cause of the accident, and more details will be shared once available.
