Fourth of July fire sparked by careless mistake
Over the Independence Day weekend, the Schenectady Fire Department responded to and put out two fires in the area. One fire occurred on Friday evening and another on Saturday morning, resulting in two homes being destroyed. Valerie Wolf, a resident whose home was among those lost, describes the devastating experience of witnessing the fire ignite near her residence on Avenue A. The fire quickly spread due to the proximity of the buildings and nearby construction materials, causing damage to additional homes. Fire Chief George Burns attributed the fire to the careless disposal of fireworks and materials. As all types of fireworks are illegal in the city, the local police urge residents to report any firework activity. In light of this incident, Wolf, who is now displaced along with others, emphasizes the importance of working together to address the aftermath of the fire. If you wish to support the Wolf family during this difficult time, their GoFundMe page can be accessed by clicking here.
