Four killed in three separate Columbus crashes

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Four people were killed overnight Sunday on roadways in Columbus after three separate crashes. Police dispatchers reported about these various crashes that all resulted in fatalities, including one that killed two people. Each crash remains under investigation and has caused various road closures. Columbus police said two motorcyclists were riding east on SR-161 near Ulry Road and were ejected from their vehicles. Police could not confirm how each driver was ejected but said each was hit by passing traffic. Both adult motorcyclists were pronounced dead just before 2 a.m. Columbus fire and police crews remained on the scene on the east side well to clean up the roadway as the scene cleared at around 8 a.m. 20 minutes after the double fatal crash on SR-161, a Hyundai with two occupants was going south on I-71 north of State Route 161. The driver lost control of the vehicle which slid into a ditch and crashed into a concrete culvert. The passenger of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver was hospitalized in critical condition. Police said alcohol is suspected to be a factor. Police said a car spun out while going north on I-71 near North Broadway Street and hit a median wall. The adult driver got out of the vehicle and walked into the northbound lanes and was hit by an unknown vehicle. The adult was hit by another vehicle while injured on the ground with police saying neither vehicle stopped at the scene. The injured driver was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:33 a.m. Anyone with information on this crash or with knowledge of the vehicles that were involved in this hit-skip are asked to contact Columbus police at 614-645-4767.
