Fog causes 3 crashes with 17 vehicles in Sheboygan County
The Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office has reported that a series of crashes occurred on State Highway 23 near Sunset Road in Sheboygan Falls at 7:35 a.m. on Thursday. The heavy morning fog drastically reduced visibility to less than 1/10 mile, causing challenging driving conditions. A total of three separate crashes took place, involving multiple vehicles. In the first crash, a 79-year-old woman from Sheboygan driving a 2022 Cadillac made a U-turn at Sunset Road, leading to a collision with a 19-year-old Sheboygan man driving a 2019 Toyota. This initial crash set off a chain reaction involving five more vehicles. One individual sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Froedtert Hospital in Waukesha, while another was taken to Aurora Sheboygan with serious injuries. The older woman involved will be cited for failure to yield the right of way causing injury. In addition to the first crash, a second two-vehicle crash occurred nearby, followed by an eight-vehicle crash eastbound on Highway 23 east of Bridgewood Road, with two individuals transported with minor injuries. All three incidents were primarily attributed to the dense fog. Witnesses described a chaotic scene with vehicles scattered in the median and on the road, emphasizing the importance of caution in foggy conditions. The Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office urges drivers to reduce speed, use headlights, and stay alert in foggy weather.
