Florida officials go to California to fetch trucker accused in fatal collision
A truck driver from Stockton, California is in the spotlight of a major case that has gained national attention. Harjinder Singh is accused of causing a fatal crash in Florida by making an illegal U-turn. Florida officials, led by Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins, are traveling to California to bring Singh back to face charges in Florida. Governor Ron DeSantis has confirmed the plan to extradite Singh, emphasizing that they will pursue justice rigorously. Singh, an Indian national who entered the U.S. illegally in 2018, was arrested in California after returning from the crash site. California Governor Gavin Newsom's office is critical of Florida's intentions, pointing out that California's sanctuary law SB-54 plays a role in the extradition process. The sheriff of San Joaquin County mentioned Singh had a clean record before the crash and the investigation is ongoing to determine if the crash was intentional. Florida officials are expected to hold a press conference in Stockton on Thursday before taking Singh back with them.
