A man from Florida who woke up from a coma after a serious car accident accused his girlfriend of intentionally causing the crash during an argument, according to legal documents. Daniel Waterman, 22, alleged that Leigha Mumby, 24, deliberately crashed into a tree on Interstate 95 in Flagler County on the night of the Super Bowl in February. Waterman claimed that Mumby expressed, "I don’t care what happens. You’ll get what you deserve," before the collision. The couple had been arguing after Mumby discovered she was pregnant and Waterman received a text from a woman in New York. The text was supposedly from a friend and fellow Philadelphia Eagles fan, but Mumby suspected otherwise leading to the altercation. Waterman, who supported the Kansas City Chiefs, was discussing the Super Bowl matchup with Mumby at the time. Mumby allegedly began driving recklessly and crashed into a tree, resulting in serious injuries for both. Waterman was left in a coma but regained limited communication abilities in May, using a whiteboard to convey the purported intentional event. Despite being transferred to Upstate University Hospital for further treatment, Waterman eventually passed away from pneumonia on Oct. 8. Initially charged with reckless driving and aggravated battery, Mumby now faces vehicular homicide following Waterman's death. She survived the crash and later gave birth, yet claims to have no recollection of the events leading up to the collision. Waterman's family hopes to gain custody of the child to raise her with them in New York, as Waterman had wished.
