Fireworks mishap injures 19 at fair in western Germany
German authorities have reported that a fireworks display caused injuries to at least 19 people, with four in serious condition at a fair in Düsseldorf. The incident occurred during a late Friday fireworks show at the Rheinkirmes event beside the Rhine river, where photos from the scene displayed fireworks exploding close to the ground. A child was one of those injured, according to the DPA news agency. Emergency services and fire department responded to the situation, and police are investigating the cause of the mishap. The fair was halted early for the day, and organizers are considering if the traditional fireworks will be part of the event next year. The fair, which spans over 10 days and includes amusement park attractions, drone displays, and various entertainment, is located on the left bank of the Rhine river, across from the historic district of the city. The fair is managed by the St. Sebastianus Rifle Club, an organization with roots tracing back to 1316. Peter Dietlmaier, a spokesperson, expressed sympathy for the affected individuals and their families, wishing them a swift recovery from the incident’s aftermath.
