Firefighter hurt as car collides with fire truck on 60 Freeway
A firefighter was injured on Monday night when a car collided with a fire engine on the 60 Freeway in Riverside. The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near Day Street, as reported by the Riverside Fire Department on Facebook. At the time, six engine crews were present responding to a fire near the freeway off-ramp. California Highway Patrol vehicles were providing partial traffic blockage around the parked engines. "While working on suppressing the fire, a vehicle collided with one of the engines, injuring the firefighter operating the pump panel," stated the department. The injured firefighter received on-site medical care before being transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of moderate injuries. Fortunately, their condition was reported to be improving by the following day. The driver of the car involved in the collision was unharmed and cooperated with CHP officers at the scene, but no arrests were made. The cause of the accident remains unknown. Firefighters managed to contain the fire within an hour of arriving at the scene, and investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the blaze.
