Fiery crash near I-49 in Grandview sends two to hospital

Two individuals have been hospitalized after a collision that caused two vehicles to ignite near Interstate 49 in Kansas City. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, May 28, at around 4 p.m., prompting the response of the Grandview Police Department and fire departments. The crash involved a light pickup truck and an SUV in what was described as almost a head-on impact, resulting in both vehicles catching fire. Fortunately, bystanders were able to assist in removing the driver from the pickup truck, while emergency responders had to extract the trapped driver from the SUV. Both drivers sustained serious injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. The Grandview Police Department is conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the collision and encourages anyone with information to contact them at 816-316-4900. The East Frontage Road south of 140th Street is currently closed and is expected to remain so for approximately two more hours.
