Father of 7 Killed in Berkeley School Construction Tragedy
Last week, a tragedy occurred at Sylvia Mendez Elementary School in Berkeley when 41-year-old construction subcontractor and father of seven, Jonathan Dillard Guidi, fell approximately 40 feet from a scaffold while working on a modernization project. Emergency services were called at 12:50 p.m. on July 24, and Guidi was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The incident, which took place when no students or staff were present, is currently under investigation by the Alameda County Sheriff's Office and the Berkeley Police Department. The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health is also conducting an inquiry into workplace safety. A GoFundMe page has been set up by Guidi's family to raise $35,000 to cover funeral expenses and immediate living costs. The fundraising page describes Guidi as a warm and welcoming individual who brought joy to everyone he met.
