Fatality of University of Alabama Student from Fallen Tree while Camping in Georgia

Malachi Crain, a senior at the University of Alabama, tragically passed away during a camping accident in Georgia over the weekend. He was a mathematics and computer science student at UA and a dedicated member of the Bama Catholic Campus Ministry, where he served as the vice president of liturgy for 2024 and led Bible studies. The incident occurred when Crain and three others were camping near Panther Creek Falls in Fannin County, Georgia, and a tree fell on their campsite, causing his untimely death. Emergency responders faced challenges due to the remote location of the campsite and rugged terrain, requiring a lengthy rescue operation. Honoring his memory, the ministry has planned a rosary prayer session at St. Francis University Parish and a memorial mass is also being organized. Further details will be shared as they become available.
