Fatality in Iowa crash: 90-year-old victim

A 90-year-old Wall Lake resident tragically lost his life on Thursday morning in a collision on a road in Sac County. The incident occurred at 7:30 a.m. on Union Avenue when a car attempting to overtake a semi hit the man's vehicle. The Iowa State Patrol reported that a Dodge Ram, driven by a 37-year-old from Carroll, was traveling north and tried to pass the semi. Meanwhile, a Toyota Camry driven by the elderly man was heading south on the same road. Both drivers attempted to avoid a crash, but the Ram collided with the side of the Camry, resulting in the death of the elderly driver. Fog was reported in the area by ISP. As of the most recent data from the Iowa Department of Transportation, there have been 179 fatalities on Iowa roads this year, which is 13 less than the same period in 2024. On average, 353 individuals lose their lives in crashes yearly across the state.
