The authorities were called to the scene on July 27, where Won was found partially trapped in a machine and was later pronounced dead. The city of Holland released a statement confirming the incident but did not disclose further details about what happened. Won was employed by LG PRI, a company involved in the machinery automation at the Holland facility. Officials have stated that foul play is not suspected, and the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration is currently conducting an investigation into the accident.
