Fatal wrong-way crash on Florida's Turnpike near Bird Road involves another collision
A tragic incident occurred on Florida's Turnpike in Miami-Dade County resulting in two fatalities and two individuals being hospitalized with serious injuries. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the crash involved a wrong-way driver and led to a chain of collisions early Sunday morning. The sequence of events began when a blue Honda traveling south in the northbound lanes struck a silver Toyota near Bird Road, causing both vehicles to block the roadway. Subsequently, another Toyota collided with the disabled vehicles and an FHP vehicle at the scene. The drivers of the Honda and silver Toyota were pronounced dead at the scene, while the occupants of the second Toyota sustained serious injuries and were airlifted for treatment. The FHP trooper present avoided injury as they were outside their vehicle at the time. Due to the ongoing investigation, all northbound lanes were closed, and traffic was diverted onto Bird Road.
