Fatal wrong way crash in Denver on I-25

One fatality occurred and four individuals were hospitalized following an incident where a driver entered Interstate 25 in the wrong direction at the Speer Boulevard exit in Denver. The crash took place close to 4 a.m. on Sunday on I-25 near 20th Street. Limited information was available at the time, but authorities reported that a 26-year-old woman operating a gray Chrysler van was traveling south in the northbound lanes on I-25 and collided with another vehicle. Tragically, the woman lost her life at the scene, while her passenger and three occupants of the other vehicle were transported to the hospital, three with severe injuries and one with minor injuries. CBS Colorado later revealed that the same driver was being pursued by the Colorado State Patrol in Mead, approximately 32 miles north, after a near miss with a state trooper. Although the CSP attempted to stop the van using emergency signals, a decision was made to halt the chase to ensure public safety, with neighboring agencies being notified. The CSP is currently assessing the handling of the chase and the decision to terminate it. The incident led to rerouting northbound traffic onto the 23rd Street exit for several hours, but the area has since been cleared, and traffic has returned to normal.
