Fatal Venice canal crash claims life of teen
A teenager named Fredy Sanchez was tragically found dead in a red Ford Ranger in the Cow Pen Slough Canal in Venice early Sunday morning. According to city officials, Sanchez was driving west on Rustic Road at high speeds when the truck collided with an FPL pole near the intersection of Ranch Road and Rustic Road around 7 a.m. After Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) removed two large alligators from the area, Venice Fire Rescue swimmers were able to locate Sanchez trapped in the vehicle. The truck was later pulled out of the canal, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
