Fatal truck crash on I-80/94 in Lake Station, Indiana
A tragic accident occurred on Interstate 80/94 in Lake Station, Indiana, resulting in the death of a truck driver on Monday afternoon. The crash took place in the eastbound lanes of I-80/94 at the 13 mile-marker, near the I-65 interchange. According to Indiana State Police, a gravel truck collided with the median wall, causing its trailer to overturn and spill gravel across the westbound lanes. The truck had initially been traveling in the right lane before veering to the left, crashing into the wall and catching fire. Sadly, the driver was trapped inside and did not survive. The Lake Station Fire Department extinguished the flames and recovered the driver's body. The authorities have not yet released the driver's identity, and the Indiana Department of Emergency Management was alerted due to oil leaking into the interstate's sewer system. As of 7 p.m., traffic is being directed through the right shoulder in both directions as all lanes remain restricted.
