Fatal Topsham accident leaves one dead and two injured
According to authorities, a tragic incident occurred on Saturday near the Merrymeeting Bridge as a result of a head-on collision on Route 196, where one individual lost their life and two others sustained serious injuries. Emergency responders, including Topsham police, worked diligently on the scene, initiating life-saving efforts on a 23-year-old male passenger who was later pronounced deceased at Mid Coast Hospital. The two drivers, a 34-year-old man in a GMC pickup and a 25-year-old woman in a Volvo SUV, were transported to Maine Medical Center with severe injuries. The collision was caused by one of the vehicles crossing the centerline, as stated by law enforcement. A reconstructionist from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office is aiding in the investigation.
