Fatal three-car crash on Norris Bridge in Lancaster County

Two individuals tragically lost their lives in a three-vehicle collision on the Robert O. Norris Jr. Bridge in Lancaster County on Sunday evening. Virginia State Police responded to the incident involving a Mercedes-Benz SUV, a Subaru Outback, and a Ford Fusion. The Mercedes-Benz, driven by David Foster, was speeding and attempted to pass a vehicle in the opposite lane, causing a collision with the Subaru and the Ford. Both Foster's passenger, Crystal Michelle Lyles, and the driver of the Ford, Ernesto Santiago, were killed in the crash. Foster sustained injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. The driver of the Subaru was unharmed. It was revealed that none of the occupants in the Mercedes-Benz or Ford were wearing seat belts. Speed and alcohol have been identified as major factors in the incident. Due to the crash and subsequent vehicle fire, the bridge sustained damage and has been temporarily closed for emergency inspections. The investigation is ongoing, and updates regarding the scheduled maintenance project for the bridge have not been provided.
