Fatal small plane accident near Pacific Grove, location of John Denver's 1997 crash.

Over 200 yards off Point Pinos in Pacific Grove, a small plane carrying three individuals crashed on Saturday night, recalling memories of when musician John Denver tragically lost his life in a plane crash almost 28 years ago. The aircraft involved, a Beech 95-B55 Baron, went down near the area where Denver perished in 1997, as memorialized by a plaque at 1275 Ocean View Boulevard. John Denver, a renowned country-folk singer from the 1970s, was known for hits like "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" and "Sunshine on My Shoulders." An aviation enthusiast, Denver met his untimely death while piloting the experimental aircraft Long EZ N555JD during touch-and-go landings at Monterey Regional Airport in October 1997. The crash was attributed by the National Transportation Safety Board to Denver's failure to switch fuel tanks during flight.
