Fatal rollover crash causes closure of I-95 in St. Lucie County
WPTV has gathered more details about a tragic rollover incident that led to the closure of Interstate 95 northbound for several hours on Labor Day. The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating the accident, which involved a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. The vehicle was heading north on I-95 near Indrio Road when it suddenly swerved onto the shoulder. Upon returning to the lane, the car overturned, causing multiple passengers to be thrown from the vehicle. The Sequoia then crossed the guardrail separating northbound and southbound lanes of I-95 before coming to rest upside down in the median. FHP has stated that a total of eight individuals, including an infant, were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. Tragically, both the driver and a passenger, identified as a 20-year-old woman from Tampa, lost their lives at the scene. The other passengers were transported to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
