Fatal police shooting in Racine following collision
The Wisconsin Department of Justice is currently conducting an investigation into a fatal police shooting that occurred in Racine late Sunday night. The incident began when Racine officers tried to arrest a man wanted for a violent domestic abuse assault earlier that day near 17th Street and Franklin Street. The man attempted to flee in a vehicle but crashed shortly afterward. He then exited the vehicle with a handgun and began to raise it, prompting a Racine officer to shoot him. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave as per department protocol. The Wisconsin DOJ is leading the investigation, with support from the State Patrol and State Crime Lab. Upon completion, the case will be handed over to the Racine County District Attorney’s Office. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Racine Police Department.
