In Orange County, a car chase involving suspected vehicle burglars resulted in a tragic outcome on Wednesday morning when the vehicle rolled over on the 5 Freeway, resulting in the deaths of three individuals inside and injuring two other passengers. The individuals in the vehicle were thought to be linked to a vehicle burglary in Anaheim, driving a black sedan when the crash happened, as per authorities. Anaheim Police responded to a call regarding suspicious activity near Euclid Street and La Palma Avenue around 2:45 a.m. where individuals were reportedly breaking into a vehicle and stealing items, explained Sgt. Matt Sutter from the Anaheim Police. Upon arrival, officers spotted a black sedan believed to be connected to the burglary fleeing at high speed. Attempts to stop the vehicle were unsuccessful, with the driver not complying, authorities shared. The pursuit began at about 2:50 a.m., with the crash occurring shortly before 3 a.m. on the northbound 5 Freeway near Brookhurst Street. During the short chase, officers observed various items being thrown out onto the freeway. The reason for the driver losing control remains unclear, authorities added. Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved in the rollover crash. The two surviving passengers were reported to be in serious and stable condition, respectively, according to Sutter. The morning commute was significantly impacted by the incident, with the California Highway Patrol taking charge of the investigation into the fatal crash.
