Fatal Plane Crash in Upstate NY Claims NCAA Woman of the Year and Relatives

A tragic incident occurred over the weekend in upstate New York when a private plane carrying a family of medical professionals and accomplished student-athletes crashed in a muddy field in Copake. The passengers, including Karenna Groff, a former MIT soccer player and 2022 NCAA woman of the year, were on their way to the Catskills for a special birthday celebration and to observe the Passover holiday. According to reports, all six individuals on board, including Karenna Groff's parents and her boyfriend James Santoro, lost their lives in the crash. John Santoro, James’ father, expressed deep grief over the loss, highlighting the positive impact the victims had on the world. Karenna Groff, known for her contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic and achievements both on and off the soccer field, had recently been honored with the prestigious NCAA woman of the year award. The group, headed to the Columbia County Airport, tragically crashed not far from their destination. The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into the incident, and preparations for the victims' funerals are currently in progress.
