Fatal plane crash in DeKalb County injures child.
A tragic incident occurred on Saturday afternoon near the Hinckley Airfield in DeKalb County, resulting in the death of a 51-year-old man and injuries to a 3-year-old child when a small plane crashed into a farm field. Multiple emergency response teams, including the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, Hinckley police and fire departments, Waterman Fire Department, and Big Rock Fire Department, rushed to the location at 12747 U.S. Route 30. The aircraft involved was a 1946 Aeronca 7AC that went down just west of the airfield. The pilot, whose identity has not been disclosed, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, while the young child, also from Maple Park, was first taken to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital before being transferred to Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago where they are in stable condition. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are conducting investigations into the crash.
