Fatal Indiana crash: Gravel truck hits median, ignites in flames, driver dies
A fatal accident occurred on Monday afternoon in Northwest Indiana when a gravel truck crashed into a median wall on the highway and caught fire. The incident took place on I-80/94 at the 13 mile-marker, with police arriving at the scene around 4 p.m. Officials reported that the truck was traveling eastbound when it suddenly veered left into the median wall and an overhead signpost, resulting in the vehicle becoming engulfed in flames. Tragically, the driver was trapped in the cab and did not survive. Emergency crews managed to extinguish the fire, though the identity of the driver has not been disclosed by the Lake County Coroner. In response to the burning oil leaked into the sewer system, the Indiana Department of Emergency Management was also alerted. As of 7 p.m., traffic on both eastbound and westbound lanes near the site was limited to the right shoulder.
