Fatal incident on West Broad Street in Short Pump involving a woman
A tragic incident occurred in Henrico County, Virginia, where a 70-year-old woman named Sharon Oakley lost her life in an early morning accident in Short Pump. The police were alerted to a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of West Broad Street and John Rolfe Parkway around 4:53 a.m. It was reported that a Toyota RAV4 driver was heading east on W. Broad Street when the vehicle first hit Ms. Oakley, who was stationary in the middle of the road. Subsequently, she was struck by a bobtail truck also traveling east. The drivers of both vehicles cooperated with the authorities during the investigation, and neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be factors in the tragic incident. The road was shut down for approximately three and a half hours while the police looked into the matter. Although it remains unknown why the woman was in the roadway, authorities emphasized the importance of visibility for pedestrians, especially during nighttime and early morning hours.
