Two individuals tragically lost their lives in a recent incident at Hong Kong International Airport involving a cargo plane skidding off the runway and colliding with a ground service vehicle, causing both to end up in the sea. The accident happened early on Monday morning and resulted in the Emirates Flight 9788 from Dubai veering off course upon landing. The Civil Aviation Department is investigating the incident, which claimed the lives of two ground staff members and saw the plane crew rushed to the hospital for treatment. The airline involved, Emirates, mentioned that the plane was being wet-leased and operated by ACT Airlines from Turkey. The Transport and Logistics Bureau in Hong Kong expressed condolences for the victims' families and assured that safety measures are a priority, with the North Runway currently closed following the accident.
