Fatal hit-and-run suspect of Crystal Lake teen found dead in Woodstock, police report

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office announced on Monday that the individual suspected in the hit-and-run accident that resulted in the tragic death of a 15-year-old boy in Crystal Lake was discovered deceased in Woodstock. This development occurred shortly after officials located the vehicle believed to be involved in the incident. The collision took place on July 2, as two teenagers were walking their bikes home from fishing when one of them was struck by a car traveling at 40 mph and then fled the scene. The victim was identified as Nick Laureys. The Woodstock police found a vehicle matching the description of the one connected to the hit-and-run during a death investigation on July 4. Subsequent inquiries determined that the deceased individual was indeed the suspect in the fatal crash. The age and gender of the individual were not disclosed. Authorities do not suspect the involvement of anyone else and have ceased the search for additional suspects. Both the Woodstock Police Department and the McHenry County Coroner's Office are conducting investigations to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the death.
