Fatal hit-and-run in Fort Smith claims man's life

A man from Fort Smith passed away at a hospital in Northwest Arkansas on March 20 after being involved in a hit-and-run incident on March 17. Warren Campbell, 52, sustained critical injuries while riding his motorcycle and succumbed to them at 8:50 p.m., as confirmed by his mother. John A. Bailey, 52, of Bonanza, was apprehended by Sebastian County Sheriff's deputies in connection with the hit-and-run, initially charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving serious injury. The possibility of revising the charges against Bailey following Campbell's death was raised but remains unconfirmed by Sebastian County Prosecuting Attorney Daniel Shue. The incident occurred at the intersection of Tennessee Ridge Road and Hopkins Place, where witnesses reported a white work-style truck fleeing the scene. Identified as the truck's owner, Bailey was interrogated and subsequently arrested by SCSO. Campbell was airlifted to a Northwest Arkansas hospital for treatment, but unfortunately could not recover from his injuries. On speaking with one of Campbell's friends, Todd Atkins, sentiments regarding their friendship and the tragic event were shared. The complete account can be accessed here.
