Fatal head-on crash victims identified on I-40 in Raleigh: Police
A serious collision early Sunday morning in south Raleigh led to the closure of a section of I-40 East, with two fatalities reported. Jonathan Perry Jr., 27, and Alaina Mathews, 37, lost their lives in the crash, which involved Perry's vehicle going the wrong way on I-40 East. Emergency crews responded to the scene, where investigators determined that Perry had been traveling the wrong way up an interstate ramp onto I-40 eastbound. The closure of all lanes between exits 293/US-1 and 295 lasted for over five hours, as access to the affected area was redirected for safety reasons. Following the towing away of the two heavily damaged vehicles, all lanes were reopened around 9:45 a.m.
