Fatal head-on crash in West Virginia
A tragic head-on collision occurred on Route 7 near Dump Hill in Hundred, West Virginia on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in two fatalities and two injuries. The accident prompted a collaborative response from emergency agencies across several counties in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. The crash, which occurred on Mountaineer Highway just outside of Hundred toward New Martinsville, was caused by one vehicle crossing the center line and colliding with another vehicle. First responders arrived at the scene shortly after 1:53 p.m. with a range of services, including emergency medical and fire departments. The driver of the vehicle that veered across the center line was pronounced dead at the scene, while a passenger from the other vehicle passed away en route to Ruby Memorial Hospital. The driver and another passenger in the second vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local medical facilities for treatment. Various law enforcement agencies were involved, including the Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office and West Virginia State Police. Route 7 was closed for several hours for investigation and reopened before 7 p.m. Mayor Chip Goff of Hundred expressed condolences to the victims' families and commended the swift response of emergency personnel. The investigation is ongoing, and updates are anticipated on Thursday once family notifications have been made.
