Fatal head-on crash in Springfield leaves one dead, one injured.
A fatal accident occurred in south Springfield on Saturday afternoon when two vehicles collided head-on at the intersection of South Fremont Avenue and Republic Road. One person was killed at the scene, while another sustained significant injuries and was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition. Speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash, according to the Springfield Police Department. The impact also caused one of the vehicles to strike a telephone pole, requiring City Utilities to secure it. Fortunately, there were no resulting power outages.
