Fatal head-on crash in Mercer County
A tragic incident in Mercer County claimed the lives of two individuals following a head-on collision. The Mercer County Sheriff's Deputies were alerted to a traffic accident on U.S. 67 near Preemption on July 23. Witnesses shared that a vehicle traveling southward veered across the center line, colliding with a northbound vehicle head-on. Tragically, both drivers did not survive the crash and were pronounced deceased at the scene. To respect the families of the deceased, the names of the drivers are being kept private until notification has been made by the Mercer County Coroner’s Office. The authorities were supported by various organizations at the scene, including the Matherville Fire Department, Sherrard Fire Department, Advanced Medical Transport, Illinois State Police, Illinois Department of Transportation, and the Mercer County Coroner. The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Mercer County Sheriff's Office and the Illinois State Police.
