Fatal head-on crash in Batavia injures multiple people
Earlier today, a tragic two-car collision occurred on Route 33 in the town of Bergen. The Genesee County Sheriff's Office reported that Joseph M. Meli, a 39-year-old from Batavia driving a blue Ford Focus, was fatally injured when he attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided head-on with a gold Hyundai Ioniq 5 driven by Mari K. Hamilton, 32. Hamilton sustained serious injuries and was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, along with one of her passengers, Paul A. Hamilton, 35, who was also seriously injured. Two juveniles in the back seats of Hamilton's car suffered minor injuries and were taken to the same hospital. The crash is currently being investigated to determine its exact cause.
