Fatal head-on collision on Highway 49 in Amador County
A tragic incident occurred in Amador County leading to the death of one woman and the hospitalization of another after a head-on collision, as reported by officials on Thursday. The California Highway Patrol's Amador division disclosed that the crash took place along southbound Highway 49 near Highway 16 around 1 p.m. According to the CHP, a 22-year-old woman from Sacramento was driving a Ford Mustang when she lost control, crossed into oncoming traffic, and collided with a Toyota Rav4 driven by a 79-year-old woman from Jackson, who tragically lost her life in the accident. The Sacramento woman was airlifted to Sutter Roseville Hospital with undisclosed injuries. The incident is under investigation, and it is not yet known if drugs or alcohol played a role. Although a road closure was put in place, it has since been lifted. The identities of the individuals involved have not been made public.
