Fatal head-on collision claims life of Soledad resident in Monterey County
The California Highway Patrol reported a fatal crash early Friday morning along Abbott Street near Firestone Business Park. The incident involved a Toyota traveling northbound and a 2016 Nissan Altima heading southbound. Authorities stated that, for reasons unknown, the Toyota crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the Nissan. Unfortunately, the driver of the Nissan, identified as 53-year-old Humberto Lopez Castrejon of Soledad by the Monterey County Sheriff's Office, did not survive the crash. The driver of the Toyota sustained unspecified injuries. The CHP indicated that there was no evidence suggesting the Toyota driver was under the influence at the time of the accident.
