Fatal hang glider crash near Lookout Mountain
Two individuals tragically lost their lives on Tuesday afternoon in a hang glider accident that occurred right after takeoff from Lookout Mountain, as reported by emergency authorities. Dade County E911 received notification of the incident in the middle of the day. The first responders on the scene were West Brow Fire and Rescue, who promptly sought assistance from Dade County Mountain Rescue, known for their expertise in high-angle rescues. Due to the challenging terrain and limited personnel, additional support was requested from Georgia Task Force 6, a rope team situated in Catoosa County. Some crews descended the mountain using ropes while others accessed the area by hiking from a private road. The initial assessment by the first responders revealed that both victims had succumbed to severe injuries. Subsequently, the operation transitioned from a rescue mission to a recovery process. The Dade County Coroner's Office and Georgia Department of Natural Resources Aviation were called in to provide air support for removing the bodies from the rugged terrain. Participating agencies included West Brow Fire and Rescue, Dade County Fire Station 1, the Dade County Sheriff's Office, Chi Memorial EMS Georgia, GSAR Georgia Task Force 6, and Georgia DNR Aviation. The names of the victims have not been disclosed to the public at this time.
