Fatal Garland crash results in 1 death and intoxication manslaughter accusation

According to Garland police, they are still working on identifying the male victim involved in the crash and are in the process of notifying the victim's family. Two 18-year-olds were in the black Cadillac responsible for the collision. The incident took place at the intersection of North Garland Avenue and Kingsley Road, where a Nissan SUV caught fire. The Nissan was unrecognizable and was towed away once morning arrived. 18-year-old Alan Ernaldo Marmol Melendez is currently in the Garland jail facing charges of intoxication manslaughter as he was allegedly driving the crashed Cadillac. Detectives found that the Cadillac, traveling at a high speed, collided with the Nissan at the intersection. Surveillance footage captured the Nissan bursting into flames, resulting in the death of its driver. Melendez and his passenger suffered minor injuries from the crash. Garland police officials stated that due to the circumstances, they suspect Melendez was intoxicated. The accident's impact prompted community concerns, with resident Becca Wilson expressing fear over impaired driving occurrences. This incident, reminiscent of a prior fatal crash near the same location involving an 18-year-old, highlights the dangers of impaired driving.
